Program: Connections ABA provides an age appropriate, functional and inclusive education for students with Autism following the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis. We provide an individualized educational program for each student within the general educational program and curriculum, as well as the greater Newton community. With flexible staffing and scheduling, we ensure that each student’s individual goals are addressed within the general and special education curricula.
Philosophy: Most children with intensive needs can learn in the company of their peers in general education classrooms and in the community, given the supports (personnel, materials, etc.) needed to meet their individual needs and maximize their potential. When typical instructional methods are not sufficient, individualized curricula are developed and implemented. Progress is assessed by daily data collection. Data are graphically displayed and reviewed regularly.

Students participate in academic classes, fine and applied arts, physical education, vocational, and life skills classes. Each student’s schedule is determined based on their individual needs and priorities.
In addition, other critical skill areas are targeted: language and social pragmatics, activities of daily living, vocational and social behavior. These skill areas are addressed by 1:1 instruction, incidental instruction throughout the school day, and during community activities. Behavior Support Plans (BSPs) are developed to motivate students to work diligently and to behave responsibly.
As students approach their transition to adult services the team works with students and families to set up an age-appropriate, functional, and post-secondary program in coordination with the designated adult service agency.
